Whether you like it or not, the Royal Wedding has been pretty much inescapable on every form of media—social or otherwise. We’re not going to talk about princes and princesses and fancy castles, though. We need to talk about their reception car.
The Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero was originally designed and manufactured fifty years ago in 1968 as the 1.5 Series Jaguar E-Type Roadster. A beautiful car back in its day, Jaguar didn’t change much of the aesthetic design, but they’ve modernized it by making this version totally electric. That “Zero” in its name means zero emissions.
It’s an incredible piece of machinery, restored and converted at the Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works in Coventry, according to their press release. Instead of an engine, the electric powertrain goes 0-62 mph in 5.5 seconds. Not bad for a car the Royals are using for a nice Saturday cruise.
The technology they used to convert the E-Type could theoretically also be used to transform a lot of old Jaguars into modern-day eco-friendly versions of their former selves. Hopefully that’s a project we could see undertaken in the near future.
But for now, Prince Harry and Princess Meghan are climbing into this beautiful Jaguar, en route to a reception hosted by the Prince of Wales, and we can only drool from afar.
